Privacy Policy

1. Who this covers
Alt Hunt ("we", "us") runs the site at althunt.io. This policy covers everyone who uses it: makers who publish alternative pages, and readers who come to read them.
The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we do not sell it, and you can have it deleted by asking.
2. What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google we receive your email address, your name, and your profile picture URL from that provider. We never see your password.
- What you publish. The product URLs, comparison text, feature and pricing tables, FAQs and images you submit, plus your votes and comments.
- Reading activity. When a comparison page is opened we record the visit: how long the page was open, whether a link on it was clicked, which site referred you, and whether you were on a phone or a computer.
- Approximate location. Our host resolves the country and city from your IP address before the request reaches us. We store only that country and city. We do not store your IP address.
3. What page owners can see about readers
This is the part worth reading twice. Every published comparison page has an owner, and that owner gets a dashboard of who has read it.
- If you are signed in to Alt Hunt when you read a page, the owner of that page sees your email address, your name and your profile picture, alongside your approximate location and how long you spent on the page.
- If you are not signed in, you appear to the owner only as an anonymous reader with an approximate location.
If you would rather read a page without being identified, sign out first or use a private browsing window. Owners can only see this for their own pages, never for anyone else's.
4. Why we collect it
- To sign you in and let you manage the pages you have published.
- To show makers who is reading their pages, which is the reason most of them publish.
- To rank the weekly board and to attribute votes and comments to a person.
- To apply plan limits and to block spam and abuse.
- To send you the emails described below.
We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.
5. Email
We send transactional and product email: a welcome message, notifications when your page goes live or reaches a milestone, weekly board results, and requests sent to you about your own pages. Every one of them carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the lot.
6. Cookies, storage and tracking
We use browser storage to keep you signed in, to remember your theme, and to hold one random identifier so we can tell a returning reader from a new one. That identifier is a random string tied to a browser, not to you: it carries no name, no email and nothing we could trace back to a person, it is only ever sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
There are no third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Sponsored placements are counted with our own first-party measurement: we record that a slot was shown and that it was clicked, and we add campaign parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) to the outbound link so the advertiser can see in their own analytics that the visit came from Alt Hunt. Those parameters identify Alt Hunt as the source. They do not identify you.
7. Who else processes your data
We share data only with the services needed to run the product, each acting on our instructions: hosting and edge delivery, our database and authentication provider, our email provider, and the AI provider that generates draft copy when a maker asks for one. Drafting sends the product details you entered, never your account or reading history.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
8. Keeping and deleting it
You can delete any page you have published from your dashboard at any time, which removes its reading records with it. To delete your whole account and everything attached to it, email us and we will action it.
Published comparison pages are public and intended to be indexed by search engines. Once a page has been crawled, we can remove our copy but we cannot remove a search engine's cache for it. That is worth knowing before you publish.
9. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Write to the address below and tell us which. We will not charge you for it and we will not make you justify the request.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects what we collect or who can see it, we will email account holders rather than quietly amend the page.
